First Quarter Begins!
September 2024 Newsletter
This month was busy for our whole team! With the fall quarter in session and members back on campus, there is so much to look forward to and reflect on. Here’s a quick reminder that we are now halfway through the design phase! After the design review early in the month, the team is finalizing design decisions and aiming to complete all CAD projects by the next design review on October 12th.
Watch our September design review!
We hope to get new students excited about FRUCD at the start of the school year. On September 20th, we tabled at the COE Club Fair to spread the word and build excitement about our racing team. On September 24th, we got to display the car at our off-campus manufacturing facility, Inventopia. Thank you to Inventopia for inviting us to their open house! Without their support, all our composite pieces, including the nose cone and front panel, would not have been possible. At this event, our members met with the economic manager as well as the city manager of Davis. What a great networking opportunity!
September also means the first track day of the season! A special thanks to our sponsors who participated in track day: Rocket Composites and Hesse Mechatronics. We hope they had fun driving the car, and we look forward to their continued support. Our new and veteran members had so much fun doing team-building activities and chatting with leads and sponsors. We always hope these events will attract new recruits, and it’s safe to say that this one did! We look forward to many more track days in future.
Coming up next month are many more plans for recruitment! Our New Recruit Orientation took place on October 5th. This year we are hoping to focus on getting new recruits onboarded quickly and efficiently while also making the process more fun and less stressful. For this reason, we hosted a team game night the same day to foster our sense of community! We hope all new recruits had fun participating in trivia, games, and team building!
Coming up soon is the Involvement Fair on October 9th. This is the second club fair of the season, and we are excited to have another opportunity to table and make our club known on campus.
October 12th-13th is when the middle design review will be taking place. This is the third design review of the season and will be held in person, although there is a virtual sign-in option. By this time each subteam should have all major CAD designs, finished simulation studies, a detailed cost estimate, and a timeline for manufacturing. Good luck to all our members working hard to get it done!
Last but not least, on October 19th, we will be participating in the popular Maker Faire. The event starts at 10 am on Historic Mare Island. This is an exciting opportunity to share our message with communities across the Bay Area. Our team can’t wait to connect to a younger generation at this well-known event. We want to get everyone excited about how UC Davis students promote clean energy in an innovative, fun, and fast way!
