Finishing The Design Phase
November 2024 Newsletter
Thank you for all the support on our Fall Into Gear November Crowdfund! We raised $6100 over the month, surpassing our goal. Thank you so much to everyone who donated!
In other exciting news, our design phase is officially over! Our final design review occurred on the 16th and 17th and our final CAD freeze on November 26th. Our Accumulator subteam even met with our Wire Bonding Sponsor Hesse Mechatronics and received invaluable feedback for this year’s subpacks. With the entire car finished in CAD, our team is prepared to start manufacturing after the holidays. Everyone at FRUCD is so proud of how far the FE12 has come and can’t wait for the next steps!
After finalizing their design, our chassis subteam is in the process of preparing new jig fixtures for manufacturing. A lot of work is also being done for the 1020 steel tubes that form the chassis. Tubes were sent out to Applied Lasers Inc. for cutting and now our chassis team is ready to begin welding! Thanks Applied Lasers Inc. for helping sponsor our team. Some were also sent out to Upstream Engineering for bending. Thank you to Upstream Engineering for their amazing work!
In firmware news, the team has gotten their wireless camera stream working and has integrated it with telemetry GUI. This interface allows the automatic processing, gathering, and transmission of data so we can more easily track the car’s performance and operational data! The dashboard has been optimized for fast SD card writing, making future changes easier. What a productive month!
Our Suspension team also got so much done this month and is now preparing tab jigs for mounting onto the chassis. Check out this gif they made to visualize how the suspension moves!
In Composites and Aerodynamics, they have finished the first airfoil part! Thank you to Rocket Composites Inc. for design and manufacturing advice for this part, we appreciate your continued support! Thank you to Resin Research for donating 8 gallons of epoxy resin! Their contribution is crucial for building the first aerodynamics package!
This month also hosted many fun team bonding and outreach events! Our team participated in the EAOP Major and and Minors Mania to encourage students to join our team and teach them about electric vehicles. This opportunity also allowed us to talk to highschool students interested in attending Davis! A little after Halloween our team also hosted a costume party! Check out member’s amazing costumes below. For friendsgiving we also had a team KBBQ and Hotpot night. This doubled as a celebration for the end of design phase! Thanks to everyone who showed up!
We can’t wait to see what the team does after break! With manufacturing underway, it
