FE12: Driven by the Heart
Our team is back from break and more driven than ever! Our subteams have taken this month to make amazing progress on many different manufacturing projects, and FE12 is slowly being pieced together by all subteams.
In the accumulator subteam, the container has been fully cut and the subpack prototype has been built! The chassis subteam has finished welding the tubes as well as the accumulator mounts. Recently, they have focused on adding suspension parts like a-arm tabs, threaded inserts, apexes, and rocker and shock tabs. They will be dividing these efforts with welding the new accumulator enclosure as well!

In other manufacturing news, the wheel package parts are currently being made. Our team members have finished the camber blocks, which were cut on CNC mills. In contrast to this computerized process, other parts are starting to be made on the manual lathe. We can’t wait to see more from this process in the future!

In composites, the carbon fiber wings of FE12 have been trimmed. Powertrain has just received the motor for this year’s car and has started drivetrain manufacturing with the brackets and pucks. Our electrical team has also kept busy as their PCBs and associated parts arrived in January, and they have since begun their soldering process!

Looking into February, we have launched our crowdfund, Driven By Heart, to raise money to send as many members to competition as possible. Any support is greatly appreciated. Hoodie designs have also been finalized, so keep an eye out for more merchandise. Seeing our teams enter the full swing of the manufacturing stage has only motivated us to work harder throughout these colder months. We hope your January was as productive as ours!
