The Road to Competition: FE13 Wrapped

FRUCD’s 2026 Formula Racing Season has officially concluded. We are so grateful to all our team members, leads, UC Davis mentors, sponsors, and donors throughout the year for making FE13 possible.
In Formula SAE competition, FRUCD scored 38th in Design, 37th in Presentation, Top 10 in cost, and 50th place overall.
Team milestones include passing the Mechanical Tech Inspection, the Tractive Battery Inspection, the EV Active Inspection, the Tilt Test, and the Rain Test. Unfortunately, the car failed the Brake Test due to an IMD fault, meaning we were unable to run the car.
FRUCD’s now graduated project manager Heather Lin called it, “a disappointing end, since we were only one check box away from passing all tech inspections but still so much improvement after not passing EV Active last year.” Although not the results we had hoped for, so much progress has been made in the past year alone, with competition milestones to prove it. We greatly look forward to what the next season holds as our team gains more knowledge and experience.
During competition, our aerostructures subteam proudly scored an 11/15, passing mechanical inspection on the first attempt. Members were also fortunate to gain many connections within the automotive and engineering industry, many of which we hope to reconnect with and gain feedback from in our next design cycle. Aerostructures has already begun designing their next stage, continuing the momentum built over the last 2 years by utilizing recent feedback and experiences.
During the summer months, with team members scattered across the country and even the globe, FRUCD continues to operate as subteams plan for our next interaction, FE14. We look forward to our very first design review, coming this Saturday, 8/15 at 9 AM PST. We look forward to hearing our network's design feedback as we enter this new season!
With fall quarter fast approaching, many subteams have also begun recruitment for this cycle. If you are a UC Davis student interested in joining FRUCD, apply below! No experience is required, and we are open to all majors. We can’t wait to meet all prospective students!
